There Are Several Techniques To Use If You Want To Test For Mold In Your Home Or Office

If you notice that allergy-like symptoms are cropping up when you are indoors at home or your workplace, then mold and mildew in those locations may be causing your irritation. Mold and mildew can settle on furniture, walls, duct systems, and just about anywhere that there is a porous surface.  When looking into getting rid of mold and mildew in your house or office, there are some important things to consider. There are some very expensive ways to test for mold. Not all of them are necessary. There are test kits available for you to use yourself that can identify any sources of mold and mildew that are present.

If you are going to get a kid and test for mold yourself, you should have more than one way to test. For instance, air quality can be tested for moisture. This consists of grabbing air samples for a short period of time and check the relative humidity. Another way to test is to take visible mold or mildew sample. Lastly, a settling plate technique to see how much mold settles after a fairly short period of time on the plate or petri dish that contains agar medium. The amount of mold can then be calculated as to how much is in the air.

There are companies that can test for mold in your home or office. When looking for someone to do the testing for you, be sure that they are using valid and accurate testing techniques. This type of sampling and testing can be costly, so do your homework. With results from the testing, the company should also be able to give you advice on how it can be cleaned up. Know that in almost all instances, the mold and mildew cannot be completely removed. They should also be able to list several ways that you can prevent the mold and mildew numbers from growing. For example, using a dehumidifier to keep the moisture levels at a normal range for the room. When the air is saturated, that is when the mold and mildew will appear. You may need to invest in a dehumidifier with a relative humidity gauge or purchase a separate one that will alert you to the moisture levels in the rooms.

Using a test for mold and mildew is only the first step in finding the answers to your allergy-like symptoms that only appear indoors at certain places. Finding the cause and eliminating it and cleaning up the original damage follows as well.
